MSEA members have spoken about their concern with the Seven Period Day Schedule at high schools in the Mat-Su. Below are a few of the comments and results of the recent MSEA survey. We know that the schedule is not what is best for students academically, emotionally or socially.
“Adding thirty-seven more students to my caseload does not make me a more effective or efficient teacher. This is not a factory, and I am not producing widgets. I am trying to help students become proficient readers and writers.”
“I have had several high achieving students that have come into my office crying because the workload is too much for them this year. Instead of trying to manage the seven periods and maintaining academic rigor, they are willing to sacrifice their academics to take a lesser course and have less of a work load to maintain stability.”
